Options for Change Addictions Team

The Options for Change Team provides a wide range of treatment options for individuals who have substance use or gambling concerns. We also provide services for family members and significant others.

What We Offer

Case Management / Counseling
  Ongoing assessment of the client and their strengths and struggles, ongoing adjustment of the treatment plan, linking to and co-ordination of required services, monitoring and support, developing and implementing the discharge plan and advocacy for the client. 
   

Options also offers a variety of psycho-educational and treatment groups:

   
Seeking Safety
  This is a phase 1 treatment group for post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse, focusing strictly on coping with present day symptoms.  Abstinence as a goal is required, and some clean/sober time is recommended or at least a serious willingness to work toward this goal.  An intake interview is required.
   
Structured Relapse Prevention
  An open, psycho-educational group that provides strategies for preventing relapse in a safe supportive environment.
   
Problem Solving and Support
  A non-judgmental drop-in support group for people who are concerned with their substance use or gambling and want to talk about issues pertaining to their use or their recovery.  We ask that you do not drink or use on the day of the group.  Mondays and Fridays 1:00 pm-2:15 pm.
   
Problem Gambling
  Assessment and counseling services for problem gamblers and/or gamers as well as concerned others.  Educational seminars on problem gambling and prevention available. Self-referral by problem gambler or concerned other.
   
Motherwise
  An outreach program that provides counseling, support and education to women who have substance use concerns and who are pregnant/ parenting children aged 0 to 6.  Women do not need to have custody of their children to access this service.  Call (613) 483-3676.
   
Managing Powerful Emotions
  A psycho-educational course on understanding and regulating powerful emotions.  The group is for both men and women in any stage of recovery.  Referrals from an internal counselor are required.
   
The Anti-depression Group
 

A psycho-educational group for those struggling with depression and substance abuse.  The focus is on learning new skills and strategies to help set goals, overcome negative thinking and improve your social life.  Internal referral required.

   
Assertiveness
  A psycho-educational group, which looks at different communication styles and barriers to assertiveness. 
   
Anger Management
  A psycho-educational group which looks at skill development and strategies to effectively reduce and control anger.
   
Thinking Things Through
 

This psycho-educational group provides individuals with the opportunity to think about and explore their relationship with alcohol and drugs.  Abstinence not a requirement. 

   
Women’s Aftercare
  A group for women who are seeking to maintain their recovery.  This group is designed for women who have attended either a treatment program or groups, or who have a significant period of drug or alcohol free time.  An intake interview is required.
   
Aftercare
  A therapy-based group that works on issues related to recovery from substance abuse.  This group is for individuals who have completed a substance abuse treatment program and other Options’ groups.   A minimum of 3 months substance free is required.  Daytime and evening groups available. Groups are open to both women and men.  An intake interview is required.
   
Back On Track
  Options for Change is a service provider for the Remedial measures program for impaired drivers.  Assessments, courses and follow-up available.
   

Eligibility Criteria

Individuals must:

  • be at least 16 years of age.
